Just when you think not having internet and not having gas is bad, THEN that is when you lose your electricity too! Big rain storm. Apparently it happens, but is usually fixed within an hour or two. This time it took 8 hours. Not having a/c is not pleasant in this area of the world. But it was back on before bedtime, thankfully. Now, we also have gas for the stove, but the hot water heater is not working. I would prefer not having the stove because it gives us every excuse in the world to eat out. Still waiting for internet, but we did meet a lovely neighbor last night who gave us her password to use her wi fi until the people come to our place. The original promised date for internet access was the 18th of June, so it would be set up when we came. I have had some great people calling for us and keep getting order numbers to reference. Then the next person that calls learns that the order number never existed and they have never heard of this problem (????) Good Grief!! Fighting a system that doesn’t work is annoying. I want my internet!
We take Ace on walks daily in the beautiful park that is close to our apartment. Signs are all over the place that we can’t read. We are going to start taking pictures of the signs and come home and try to translate them with our books we brought along. A lot of the signs have “perro” on them, so apparently there are some rules with dogs that we haven’t a clue what the restrictions might be.
Our apartment building has four apartments and thankfully everyone speaks English. We are the only ones that don’t have a Spanish vocabulary. So when the gas company came today, there was someone to help us out. Sure I can say “Cuauto es” (how much), but when they rattle something back I haven’t a clue how much they are saying. And we have been told to be careful as they love taking advantage of the gringos.
This experience is FUN and frustrating. But it IS an experience! We wanted some excitement in our lives and we got it.
I actually told people I wasn't going to blog because I couldn't imagine things being all that different. Wow, was I wrong.
